Alan Dobson

Alan Dobson is Professor in the Microbiology Department at the University College, Cork in Ireland and Director of the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) at the University. ERI was established as an inter-disciplinary research institute to facilitate and support environmental, marine and energy based research at University College Cork. The Dobson group actively collaborates with the BIOMERIT Research Centre (BRC, Director Prof. Fergal O'Gara) located in the Microbiology Department and Biosciences Institute at UCC. The mission of the BRC and ERI is to integrate excellence in the target areas ofbiomedical, health, environmental and marine research. Together the ERI/BRCI have been successful in gaining funds for numerous marine-related national and international projects with a focus on using metagenomic based approaches to study marine biodiversity and bioactive compounds from marine bacteria.
