Rainer Ebel

Rainer Ebel received his PhD at University of Würzburg, Germany, where he studied the chemical ecology of Mediterranean sponges under the guidance of Professor Peter Proksch. He undertook postdoctoral research with Professor Phil Crews at University of California at Santa Cruz, working on the natural products chemistry of sponge-derived fungi. In 2000, he joined the Institute for Pharmaceutical Biology and Biotechnology at University of Düsseldorf, Germany, and in 2007, he transferred to the University of Aberdeen, where he currently holds the position of a senior lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the recently established Marine Biodiscovery Centre.
